THE POLKA PIT STOP was
the "brain storm" of Marko Polka when Ed Gould and his son Matthew
were installing a computer based broadcasting system at WQTW.
The computer system was installed so that polka music could be
broadcast non-stop all weekends long in Latrobe Pennsylvania.
When the computer system
was tested, at about 3:30AM, Ed started playing Slovenian polkas and
waltzes, as this is the style of polka that he loves the most.
He turned on the microphone and started talking over the air and
invited anybody who might be awake to call in and he would play
their favorite requests. The telephone began ringing!
Matthew answered the phone and began taking requests......and, the
POLKA PIT STOP was born!
Marko
asked Ed and Matthew to host a weekly polka show. Ed told him,
"I've never hosted a radio show before, but I don't think I would
mind doing a show. The only thing is, if I'm going to host a
weekly polka radio show, I would want it to be Slovenian polka and
waltz music." The agreement was made and the "big radio
contract" was signed.
If there were polka
loving fans calling in with requests at 3:00AM, imagine how many
would be calling on Saturday afternoon! Ed asked Matthew to
join him as his co-host and nearly four weeks after the inception of
THE POLKA PIT STOP, they kicked off their "Maiden Voyage" on August
11, 2007 with the first "official" broadcast of THE POLKA PIT STOP.

From time to time, you
can hear Eric Gould (Ed's youngest son) joining the broadcast.
Eric enjoys the "technical" aspects of the show and will lend his
talents to maintaining the website and consulting on the graphics
and layout of this website.
